An exciting colored gemstone is the violet-blue tanzanite. Tan- zanite was first discovered in 1967 in Tanzania, making it a relative newcomer in the colored gemstone field. A special characteristic of this gem is that three different colors can be seen in the stone, depending on how the stone is viewed - blue, violet and reddish brown.

Tanzanite is a good example of how techniques employed after the stone is mined can enhance the beauty of the stone. When zoisite crystals are mined, they may be brown, pink, yellow, blue or green. When the crystals are heated following certain procedures and to a certain degree, the beautiful violet-blue color appears.

Tanzanite is an exciting center stone because larger stones are available and the larger size often offers a deeper color than smaller ones. While tanzanite is not the hardest of gemstones, with the proper gem settings, this beautiful gem affords years of plea- surable wearing.

Let us share with you the excitement of our colleciton of tanzanites and other colored gemstones.
